Roof Plumbing & Flashing
Roof plumbing is the metalwork side of a roof: the flashings, valleys, box gutters, downpipes and cappings that direct water off the building. It is the part of the roof most likely to fail, because it is where different materials and different planes meet.
Wherever a roof changes direction or meets something else, there is a join, and every join is a potential leak. Valleys collect the most water on the roof. Box gutters carry it in a confined channel. Flashings seal against walls, chimneys and skylights. When these are wrong, the roof surface itself can be perfect and the building still leaks.

Common questions
Roof plumbing covers the metalwork and drainage side: flashings, valleys, gutters and downpipes. In practice most roofing jobs involve both.
Usually not. Valley irons can normally be replaced by lifting the tiles either side of the valley and putting them back.
